Painting tables, trays and other things black - Plus a black SNAKE in my house!

 

Yes, a snake! In my house, in the middle of the freakin city! He did not meet his maker on this day, he was set back on his turf. He did give me the idea for the "Back in Black" theme tho. I used Krylon paint in black, and copper for some of the projects and Heirloom Traditions Paint in Polo for another. All of these projects feel industrial to me. They are a mighty shadow in a little package. That Heirloom Traditions Paint in the color Polo is my favorite. It has a blueish undertone. Some light it looks totally black, but in other light, you see the slightest hint of navy. LOVE This is a fun video. I ran away with the "back in black" thing. Garage sale this weekend - What can I find to sell - Is there any money to be made?

 

Just showing off a few of the items I believe I'll be taking to my friend's sale this weekend. Can I make any money? Will I allow myself to even sell some of these pieces? Not even I know the answers to those questions. Likely some of these items will just come back home with me.

I hesitate to call this sale a garage sale because her items are from a warehouse she stores her home staging pieces in. Everything is always so nice and her husband sells great "garage/yard/tools". In the midwest, no one calls them "tag sales" but that's what I think these should be called...garage sale just sounds so cheap. Thrift Find Redefine - Making plastic look like aged copper - Spray paint greenery - Glass vase DIY

 

 

I had this can of Krylon Hammered Copper spray paint and it was burning a hole in my imagination. I began by taking a Dollar Tree planter and painting it copper then dry brushed a couple of green chalk paints to resemble an aged copper pot.

Next, I spray painted a thrifted ceramic pitcher copper and added greenery. Next up, I did a little painty-painty on a thrifted topiary tree by spray painting the leaves, and finally, a glass vase got "the treatment"

Garden path transformation - Brilliant Spring flowers - Popcorn Drift Rose in landscaping

Sooo many flowers in the gardens this time of year. The Japanese Purple Iris is in full bloom and absolutely gorgeous. Glowing pink geraniums against the Iris is stunning. I added a couple yellow marigolds just for contrast. I haven't loved a garden like this in 25 years. It makes me so happy. If I am not out in it, I am gazing at it from my office window. 5 Ingredient Chicken Curry for the crockpot or stovetop

 I have been making this chicken curry for about 5 years now. It is by far the easiest, most filling meal I can put together. Normally I always have the ingredients in the pantry.

My husband works close to a traditional Indian food store so he picks up the seasoning packet mix but you can use any curry powder and I have. I find I need a lot of normal curry powder so that is why we tried this mix and now it's our favorite. Depending on how many you are feeding (or how much they eat. Teenagers.) you can add another chicken breast or two. Anything over 4-5 chicken breasts and I add another can of the coconut milk, another can of the crushed tomatoes, more veggies to taste, and two packets of our mix. Recipe: 3-4 chicken breast 1 can of coconut milk curry powder to taste. I use about 3 tablespoons 1 large can of crushed or chopped tomato or 2 cans of Rotel 1 bag of frozen veggies of your choice. Mixed veggies are good too. I do add the chicken frozen which is perfect for the slow cooker, just cook it for about 6-7 hours adding veggies in the last 20 minutes. #chickencurry #easychickencurry #homemadechickencurry

'70s-vibe BoHo Hippy Bangle-Bracelt Garland, Lamp Shade, Vintage Flower and so much more

Follow me on this journey to DIY some cool items with bangle bracelets. Without planning, these DIYs came out so 1970's Boho hippy. I hope this video gives you the inspiration to do something with leftover bangles or if you find a really good deal on them as I did while thrifting. After buying multiple bags of bracelets for .20 each, I knew I had to make something with them. My first thought was a curtain addition. I wanted them to free flow down the edge of my curtains where they meet in the middle. It was so easy, I just clipped the top bracelet with the top of the corner on the curtain ring clip. Easy peasy! No, not like it seems. The rafia from the hula skirts is thin. I will have to tie the bracelets together with something a bit stronger like jute twine, rope, or yarn. Opening and closing these curtains means you have to give them a tug and the first time I tried, I broke the rafia strip. It's ok, everything is ok ;) Next, I added bracelets to a lampshade. Sooo '70s maaan! I made a flower out of bangle bracelets. I made a boho thingamajig that is super cute on my cliffhanger. I added a few to a vase as a classy topper that is also modern and chic. This video came to life in about 3 hours.  I have so many other things going on that none of them are finished and therefore not ready for the editing board.  I touch on everything from crashed paint jobs to braided hair and new sunglasses.  Of course, you'll see flowers, a new landscape, trash to treasure and a quick peek at a painting I did a couple years back.  

I'm telling you EVERYTHING is in this video.  Not the kitchen sink but I did go to a thrift store that was having 80% of everything.   They needed to clean the place out for a remodel.

Walk through this giant antique mall with me Part 2! For this kind of place, I found a lot of pretty good deals. Usually, these places are too overpriced to be called thrift. I was able to find many items at a fair price here. I got so much excellent footage that I split this video into two. Part two is right here and now and includes the haul. Just how many fabric items can you make pillows with? I quickly came up with 4 that you have too!

 

I decided to raid my linen closet and find something to make pillows with.  Most of this stuff has been in this drawer for years.  I sometimes use maybe 10% of what is in here.  Well, today I am showing you how you too can raid your linen closet and make pillows.  

I use placemats, fancy towels, and table runners for a no-sew project.  Essentially you need hot glue and or no-sew fabric tape and an iron.  Also, some cute tassels or dodads can be added for fun and whimsy.

Turning a free dresser into something primative cottage like or vintage farmhousey to sell

 Using Debi's DIY chalk paint I give this worn-out dresser a completely new look. It really needs new drawer bottoms and a new top but with the price of lumber right now I decided to NOT fix everything. It all still works very well so keeping it simple was my best option. I used wallpaper to line the bottom of the drawers which keeps the contents nice and clean.

The paint colors I used were Bohemian Blue, Gypsy Green, and Crinoline white. It was coated with 3 coats of Krylon Clear Matte spray paint and left to dry overnight. This dresser/buffet feels very cottage core to me. Like it could have been in some french country house, passed down for generations. I am getting a new dining room set tomorrow so we will see if it looks good with that. I will likely be selling this piece at our summer garage sale but until then it is sitting pretty in a corner of my dining room. I've already used it as a mini serving buffet and it holds a bunch of tablecloths, napkins, and in one drawer tax papers and receipts. LOL! Spring Opener - Porch makeover - Deck Transformation - Patio update - This video is all these things

 

Opening our deck with furniture cushions, a gazebo cover, and a new rug. Some of the plants are just about to open up and some I missed and are already faded. This back porch is my favorite spot on the entire property. During summertime, you can usually find hubby and me sitting out here enjoying the gardens. Thrift flip items from the best sale ever | FREE is my favorite four letter "eff" word

 Join me as I show you my girlfriend's warehouse sale. She had so many cool things, vintage, rustic, home supplies, and decor. I was in my thrifting dreamland!! We had a beautiful day for a sale and probably 50 cars showed up. The stuff was leaving the sale faster than they could get it out. Lots of cool antique bed frames, outdoor furniture, and lawn care. Her husband makes signs and farmhouse decor out of scrap lumber they take off of jobs.

I got a dresser from there that I plan to thrift flip for profit but not until I use it for a bit. Always like to keep some of my items and live with them. Vintage '69 - '71 8mm film digitalized- Fishing Kentucky Lake- Hunting Southern MO- When I was Young

 

Classic 8mm film from the late 1960's into the early 1970's.  Lots of fishing on Kentucky Lake, Bull Shoals Lake, Cabul Lake.  Lots of hunting in southern Missouri.  Lots of family gatherings with Knowles and Miller families.  I remember very little of this as I was so young but I do remember the SuperBee car.  My grandfather on my dad's side passed away when I was in 4th grade so I have very little memory of him, it was great to see him in a couple of these videos.  

A lot of the folks in these videos have passed away and I hate myself for not being able to have these preserved before.  I know my father and grandfather would have loooooved seeing them.

High End Wayfair #Spring_DIY_Dupe Decor using hardback books/chalk paint/stamps and my Cricut

 I signed up for a spring DIY dupe on my friend Sue’s channel "Discovering the Art of Living". The object I picked was from Wayfair and was $99. I went to my local thrift store and bought 12 books at $.75 each for a total of $9 to dupe this project. The pretty greens and white scream spring to me.

I had criteria for these books. They needed to be a certain size and a certain amount of that size to match the duped project. I was going for size and then color. Since the colors in my home are actually grey's, white's and now this lovely fern color of green, I knew that would be my palette. Using a stamp I already had, some Dollar Tree rub-on stickers I already had and my Cricut I made these books. They turned out fabulously!! I would guess the price is so high because their books are actually about what the cover says. Mine are not. Macramé wall art knock off

Painting chairs sucks but I did it anyway. Almost. Kinda. A third of them. Hold my beer.

 

I have mixed feelings about these chairs. With great intentions, I began painting them and then changed my mind a few times until I finally threw in the towel. I didn't really give up, I am just letting the ideas mingle in my brain for a while. About 6 years ago I painted a different set of dining table chairs and it took me a month. I think the dread of having these chairs tied up for a month was eating at me. To the point that I didn't like any of my options regarding color. Looking back on the whole ordeal I should have just went with the white as I originally thought. Maybe I'll still do that but at a different time. I think I'll blame all of this on covid. Why not? Everything else in the world is blamed on it. For the most part, I don't mind the look of two chairs being different colors. HA!! Who am I kidding? It'll drive me batcrap crazy. Right here and now I am challenging myself to finish these chairs before I wear a swimsuit the first time this year. That will be a hard challenge as we are working on our lake property and I know we'll need to jump in the lake sooner than later. I guess I can also command myself to not brush off the rule and just jump in nekid LOL!

Come walk with us through the Antique Barn. Miles and miles of treasures for that bargain hunter

Join us as we walk through this ginormous Antique Barn. The place is so full of stuff you will need at least eight hours and perhaps more. It is located in Warrenton Missouri off of Highway 70. If you are ever in the area or just driving through it is worth the stop. Their address, phone number, and exact location are clearly marked on google. Antique Barn, Warrenton MO

I found a lot of very cool wood furniture but you know that I'd want to paint it and I just can't pay the kind of money they want only to turn around and paint it. I guess if the piece spoke to me... actually reached out and grabbed me by the leg as I walked away and screamed "Kathy, buy me this very instant!" (this has happened before) Maybe then, but that didn't happen even once this time.

Dangit.

There is legitimately something for everyone in this place. Not everything was an antique but most of it was. I kinda cracked up to see the original "Skate Barn" carpet still on the floors. If you pay close attention to the building itself you can still see all the features such as the middle is concrete where the skating happened. The carpet goes around the whole front and probably the sides. The front of the building used to be the concession stand and is being used as the cash register area. There is even a little corner nook with a few chairs you can sit down and people watch. It is probably only me, but I love the nostalgia the place brings from a big part of history in this town. A lot of kids grew up skating there and if they took a moment to wake through it now, I think they would think it pretty cool everything is essentially the same, just filled with 836,341 tons of stuff/junk/antiques/treasures/finds.

Thrifting "USA Resale" Shop - Small town, super nice store

 Living in a small town really puts a cramp on your thrift shopping. Having this little gem of a place in our corner of heaven is a godsend. They have such a nice selection of many different home decor styles. It's my favorite place to buy furniture and artwork for the walls.

They also have a really nice selection of women's clothing and shoes, many of which are a bit dressier than I normally wear. I am not big on new clothes or shoes so I don't often look at that part but when I do want something nice for a good price, this is the place I visit. It's crazy to me but every time I pull into their parking lot and see "USA Resale" I hum the tune "Surfing USA" "Everybody was thrifting... 6 Ingredient Salsa Verde

 In Today's video, my hubby is in the kitchen making his Salsa Verde. We have been making and enjoying this salsa for many years. Using 6 ingredients anyone can find at the grocery store you too can pull this together in 20ish minutes. You will need tomatillo's, cilantro, garlic, a pepper your family likes we usually use serrano's but the store was out so we used jalapenos, apple cider vinegar, and onion to taste. Hanging lamp ideas on the cheap using household items most people have or can easily find 2nd hand

Using long hanging light cords from a previous video, I came up with ideas to make your own hanging lamps. From baskets to flower pots, this video is chock full of inspiration so that you can DIY one for your own self! Actually just looked around my house for things that would work inside or outside and that I was not afraid to cut a hole in. LOL! Find the cords/lamp socket at all the hardware stores and on Amazon for just a few bucks. On a side note, I would like to state that the song on this video has been copyright claimed. That simply means the owners can place ads on this video and collect revenue. It is NOT a strike. This song is in my apple license as a free song but to dispute, is a long journey, of course. LOL It is such a great song that I agree the people that own it should get any revenue their ads on this song might make. Master bedroom update with art work and a couple little dollar item diy cuties

 Using Dollar Tree items I tweek our bedroom with some cute, easy to make little decor pieces. Now, not using Dollar Tree items, I repaint a larger canvas and some lamps with Rustoleum spray paint in the color Nutmeg and a camouflage tan. All of this began because we recently bought a new bed. I still have not found lampshades that I liked enough to spend the money on. Lampshades are NOT cheap, good gravy.

Grannies homemade chicken and dumplings - Great comfort food - Winter eats

 This recipe has been passed down from my mother-in-law. The entire family looooove this dish. I make it a few times each winter.

Her easy to remember recipe is: 3 2 1 3 cups of flour 2 eggs beaten 1 cup of water 1 whole chicken Boil chicken with celery and carrots if desired. When the wing pulls away from the breast, the chicken is ready. Remove chicken and let cool. Shred chicken. Mix eggs and water, add flour. Roll out on floured counter about 1/4 in thick, cut into bite-size pieces and drop dumplings into a rolling boil, while stirring quickly. Let simmer for 30 mins and serve.

These white glass globes have a great texture, I wanted to stuff them with fairy lights and turn them into little flickery glowy balls. Also, a sneak peek at a recent thrift shop trip in which I found dining room chairs!! Gorgeous, carved, perfect chairs. They only need a paint job LOL!
